Mahisrekh, countryside Bengal

Frankly I am not a traveller but yes on weekends a good and complete reader of newspaper telegraph specially those extras, like every sunday with tea in my hand I was going through the each page of newspaper I read about Mahishrekha. That time I just read and then fold the newspaper neatly on the shelf, but after the exhaustive weekday me and my close buddy Sagar decided to take a break from every thing and set for a trip for our weekend. Till the last moment we were confused of our destination then I remember of Mahisrekha I read. I took out that particular page of newspaper call him up and without further planning moving towards our destination on bike as it his beleive that travelling via bike is more fun than from train or taxi, I agreed and he was right. Sun was too bright and on our head but the open road NH6 and speed sun too was our partner that time. Bike took a long time to reach Kulgachia and by then we were too hungry thankfully Samir the writer was correct that we will get eateries on the station, We had our lunch there and rested on the bench for sometime. Again our journey began and slowly our bike is taking us to Mahisrekha, riverside was truely amazing and we were stopping several times to arrest the beauty of nature in our camera. Finally we reach Mahisrekha,
It is said that Ishwar chandra vidyasagar once swam across the raging Damodar on a stormy night to meet his mother. that I said just to tell you the one of famous lines from history of one the famous historical legends, I got to know that from Uncle sitting there completely stranger but full of knowledge specially on the subject of kolkata's history. Poor Sagar was retriving his memory hard to remember about Shri Vidysagar and it was embarassing when he finally give up and asked about this great legend. Uncle had patience so he described and told us the detailed history. Thanks to him that we were feeling proud to be a Bengali and excited to wander around.
Riverank in Mahisrekha was simply great to for lazzing around, a small town near Uluberia.
It is flanked on both sides by rich greenaries and trees with branches almost kissing the water surface. The river extends upstream to Howrah's udaynaranpur and beyond and joins the ganga near uluberia.
The villages along the riverbanks represents the quessential Bengal countryside, which we used to see in old bengali films. complete with mango orchards, rows of palms and areca palms, clusters of bamboo groves and rich paddy fields strenching to reedbordered marshes. It is an ideal place for picnic, a local athletics club helps picnikers by providing them with all that one needs to spend a rollicking day. We realised that birdwatchers can also have a good time, as many different species can be spotted searching for worms along the riverbanks, so we too became birdwatchers and our camera rolls on. I loved the boats at the banks those were small only for 2-3 persons, I requested one to take me in the middle of the river which he agreed on charging Rs 20 for both of us, we were there till the time of sunset. The sunset is so colorful that it alone justifies the trip. The fading orange sunrays on the ripling water was like magic as we posed and clicked it was like somebody is painting the sky which we saw never before in the city sky. then the wisherman coming home one by one on their boats coupled with wafting smell of wet earth- I say the sweet smell of soil. we were there sitting and enjoying the site munching jhalmuri. One amazing thing about countryside village people is that they are very soft spoken and very much open and friendly, we met the uncle again and he took us to his house for diner, It was 7pm very early for us to have our diner but he told me it was his usual time for diner. We didn't mind as we were hungry then also. Diner was simple yet mouthwatering- rice, moong dal very much different in taste than we usually have must had some different spices with potato wafers and some cooked vegetables ( palak). Never before we enjoyed some food before that was a treat for our soul unforgettable, then we set for our journey to come back to our usual lifestyle. Now Sagar loves bengali food then his continental and fast foods specially pizzas :)
